| Hey everyone
I'm back from Stevens now (well actually i've been back since Friday) and I could write an entry the length of War and Peace about E.C.O.E.S. (Exploring Career Options in Engineering and Science). However, I know that Jen will be putting one up soon, so it's kinda pointless for me to say the same stuff that she'll say. Besides she's been doing journal entries a lot longer than I have. So after hers comes up, I'll read through it and if I have anything else to add, I'll put up an entry of my own.
Also, I know I haven't done a review in a while, but I have seen a lot of movies. If I get a day where I'm really bored, I'll put them up. But if there is any movie that anybody really wants me to review, let me know. I've seen I Robot, Spiderman 2, Anchorman, and King Arthur.
Anyway tty all later. | | |
| Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story
Plot- A small gym, Average Joe's, has failed to pay is mortgage payments and will be bought by a larger rival gym if it does not pay its $50,000 mortgage off in thirty days. A group of regulars at Joe's creates a dodgeball team to compete in the ADAA (American Dodgeball Association of America) National Dodgeball Championship to win the $50,000 cash prize. However, the rival gym has also entered a team in the tournament.
Visuals- Umm... can't say much here... no need for special effects or anything. Good camera work during the dodgeball sequences I guess.
Sounds- Sound effects were well done. Some good music.
Conclusion- Dodgeball is definitely a must see for anyone who likes comedies. Absolutely hysterical and I was on the verge of tears (from laughter) at some points. The dodgeball sequences are exciting and hilarious at the same time, and it seems that there is always a twist. With a movie like this, you can't say much, but it has my full endorsement. If you're looking for a laugh, go see this without hesitation.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Plot: Back at his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the infamous Harry Potter finds himself in the sights of a convicted murderer, Sirius Black, who escaped from the wizard prison of Azkaban, something no other wizard had ever done.
Visuals: The visuals were spectacular. While the first two Harry Potter movies were directed by Chris Columbus, who tended to give the films a slightly cheerful tone, the new director, Alfonso Cuaron, decided to make the movie much darker. The school/castle itself, which used to be very bright, like the sun was always shining on it, now seems to be in a permanent eclipse. With the exception of the werewolf, which although unrealistic was still very cool, the special effects were amazing. While reading the books, I never imagined that the dementors actually made things cold around them, but it had a very nice effect in the movie, especially in one scene where some flowers wilt as the walk past.
Sound: Sound effects were well done, as was the music. Not much else to say I guess.
Conclusion: The movie itself was great. Definitely a must see for any Harry Potter fans. Be aware though, the movie butchers the book. Although Book III was longer than the first two, this movie is shorter than the first two films. Clocking in at somewhere between two and two-and-a-half hours, Azkaban is by no means short, but it moves amazingly quickly. Only the backbone of the novel actually remains, however. True Harry Potter fans will miss all the little details that they enjoyed finding in the first two films. This is actually the only thing I didn't like about Azkaban.
Rating (Two this time)
With relation to the book 5 out of 10

Here's a movie that we watched in Latin class over the course of about 2 or 3 weeks.
The Odyssey
Plot- Odysseus, king of the Greek island of Ithaca, goes off to fight in the Trojan War, leaving behind his wife and newborn son. The war lasts ten years and all the kings of Greece return home, except Odysseus, who is forced to wander the seas after offending Poseidon, god of the sea. The Odyssey tells of Odysseus' journey home and reunion with his family.
Visuals- Anything in the film that was real was well done. Nice scenery and some beautiful zoom outs of the ship sailing on the ocean. But the monsters and gods were really cheesey. Very little (if any) computer graphics were used. Instead it was all probably like paper mache. And the glow surrounding Hermes was just really poorly done.
Sound- Not much to say here. There were some nice sound effects when Odysseus is killing people, realistic squishes and such. Music wasn't to bad.
Conclusion- There were many differences between this made-for-TV movie and the epic poem of Homer, though not as many as there were between Troy the movie and The Illiad. The acting was a bit lacking but not enough to distract me from the movie. All in all it was pretty good. You really can't expect much more from a TV movie. I'd recommend it only to those that enjoy ancient literature (i.e. The Odyssey, The Illiad, or The Aeneid).

Please don't yell at me for giving this a higher rating than The Lion King 1 1/2. It's a live action movie which kinda puts it on a different scale than an animated movie. They're just judged in so many different ways. | | |
